This video is footage from Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama, when local authorities clashed with peaceful protesters marching for voting rights. Many people were injured, but that didn’t stop them from trying again until they were able to successfully march the 54 miles from Selma to Montgomery.
Parents, you may wish to preview this video and decide whether or not to share it with your kids. Some of the images of violence are difficult to watch. However, a fantastic discussion can arise from viewing the clip. This video was shown in RE, and shows the successful march which occurred after Bloody Sunday.
Consider these questions: After watching both videos, which side do you think won: love or hate? Why might someone take part in a march even though they know they might get hurt? Pay attention to the people marching. Do you see anyone who looks like you (skin color, dress, gender, age, etc.)?
