Youth classes and groups started with a flourish September 20th as we began by
dedicating teachers in the service. Our Youth Committee Chair, Board Rep and other teens welcomed families for our open house. It was great to see everyone who came to visit, hear what’s planned for this year, and enjoy a snack, music, and service projects.
We made a blanket, played soccer, prepared a snack, and visited with families while hosting Project Home families on Thursday.
Thanks to all who were part of teacher training, to all of those who stopped by our PeaceJam meeting over Wednesday night dinner, and to the OWL parents who took part in orientations this week.
We are also grateful for the kind help from those who volunteered at the reception for Laura Smidzik’s ordination. Laura is now WBUUC’s minister of membership, a role she fills with warmth and groundedness. She shares with us this poem called Clearing, by Martha Postlethwaite:
Do not try to save
The whole world
Or do anything grandiose.
In the dense forest
Of your life
And wait there
Until the song
That is yours alone to sing
Falls into your open cupped hands
And you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
How to give yourself
To this world, so worthy of rescue.
